My family and I just spent a week in Maui. Since it was a family vacation I fought off the idea of booking a shoot for as long as I could but eventually I caved. There was no way I was going to Hawaii and not shooting in the water.
So much for El Niño dumping rain on Los Angeles this winter. I had high hopes for these great shoots in the rain but came to the conclusion that shooting in the rain isn’t all I had hoped it would be.
As I look back at 2015 it will be defined as the year I spent in the water. Having ponied up for a professional grade camera housing for my DSLR it opened up the possibilities of what had been fun experiments to full-fledged commercial shoots.
This summer was epic. Thanks to global warming and El Niño we had an amazing summer with 70° water temps for five months. This shoot with Courtney was my last ocean shoot for the season.
Over the past two years I have been able to combine my love of the ocean with my photography. Recently the question was posed to me about what I love outside of photography. This past week it dawned on me that the answer is the ocean.
As with any new piece of equipment I like to spend enough time using it so that when it comes time for a commercial job I am familiar with the issues and know how to overcome them.
