Watching ’em grow – a five year tradition of family portraits

By on October 12, 2011

One of the great things about shooting family portraits is developing relationships. This year I’m shooting with a lot of families I have photographed on numerous occasions. In a lot of cases I only see the families once a year but documenting the family’s growth is an amazing experience.

A few weeks ago I shot Tracey and Carley. This marks the fifth year I’ve photographed them. The night before our shoot I bumped into Carley at the El Segundo High School football game. My heart dropped to think she was already in high school, but it turns out she’s still in 8th. Carley was nine years old the first time I photographed her in 2007.

New studio and athletic portraits with Rachel

By on March 19, 2011

Robin and I bought a house in November.  As excited as I was to own our home I was more excited about being able to build and plan the new studio.  Work plus new baby made it challenging to get the studio ready but last month I finally got to a place where I was ready to start booking shoots.

Rachel has the honor of being the first client in the new studio. I met and worked with Rachel in early 2010. Since then she’s been working her ass off to get in better shape. I’d say it worked.

Renaissance Towers for About:Space

By on March 11, 2010

A couple weeks ago I got a call from the interior designers at About:Space. They were finishing up on a project for the Renaissance Towers downtown and wanted to submit photos of their work for an industry award. Their work involved upgrading the lobby and leasing office as well as designing the new penthouse. The following shots are samples from our two day shoot.

As much as tried to integrate it into the shot, I just couldn’t manage to get the helicopter pad just outside the windows on the right to read. Next time I’ll request a helicopter.
